The Cherokee National Research Center is a state-of-the-art facility that is home to a collection of thousands of Cherokee artifacts and archives formerly housed at the Cherokee Heritage Center. We are committed to honoring the legacy of the Cherokee Heritage Center, who have been incredible stewards of this collection since 1967. In addition to protecting and preserving Cherokee assets, the center provides access to archival materials, a research library and genealogical services to assist in family history research. Artifacts, documents and other materials are available to view in person by request, and the center is dedicated to digitizing the collection for greater accessibility.

Genealogy is the study of family descent, which gives individuals an opportunity to connect with or discover their Cherokee ancestors. We are excited to have two genealogists on staff at the Cherokee National Research Center. Our genealogists can assist individuals with family research. Whether you are trying to build out your family tree, learn about your ancestors or claim Cherokee citizenship, our genealogists can assist you.

The Vault
The vault is a state-of-the-art fireproof and storm-resistant storage facility with a gas suppression system to ensure that our collection of precious Cherokee artifacts, art, photos, and documents are preserved and protected for future generations and scholars. The Cherokee National Research Center houses a vast collection of more than 5,000+ two- and three-dimensional objects, including baskets, pottery, furniture, clothing, art and more. Plus, we have an incredible storable of photographs that bring Cherokee history and culture to live.
Library & Research Room
In addition to our archival collection, the Cherokee National Research Center houses a public library of books and reference materials, plus two private research rooms with restricted access for scholars and individuals doing historical research.
