Commercial clay, hand coiled, hand burnished. Ancient Caddo Negative Resist Smoke technique for the writing and swirls where clay slip is applied before smoke firing and rubbed off afterwards. This piece was created for the SPEAK exhibition about the preservation of Native Languages. It represents playful design of animals Native to the Caddo to help learn the Caddo, Hasinai, language with phrases written in Caddo, for example "Dawkinaha Hasinai: Speak Caddo!"
