I was born in Lawton, Oklahoma and grew up in Oklahoma City. As a young person, I won second in state at the “Mickey Edwards Congressional Drawing Competition”, and 1st Place in Textile Design at the “Young Talent in Oklahoma” Competition at Central State University (now UCO). I was awarded scholarships for art to both Central State University and Oklahoma City University.

In 1992, I relocated to the Washington DC area.  I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts in Art History with a minor in Studio Arts from George Mason University in 1994. I am currently living in the Shenandoah Valley area of Virginia. I am a recent empty nester after having homeschooled three children through high school. I am a painter, beader, quilter, basket maker, and non-degree seeking student at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, NM. I am currently focused on learning historical Cherokee river cane basket designs, their evolution through time, and what makes them identifiably Cherokee.
